Pyongyang, 20 April – North Korea has sharply criticised US President Donald Trump’s recent decision to simplify regulations for US arms exports, accusing him of wanting to ‘expand war in the world’. In a note released by the official Kcna news agency, the North Korean regime called the move ‘a blatant contradiction’ to US calls for dialogue and international stability.

The measure, signed on 9 April with an executive order, aims to strengthen the US military industry and simplify bureaucratic procedures to facilitate exports to allied countries. According to Pyongyang, however, it is an operation aimed at expanding US global influence ‘through the sale of instruments of destruction’, fuelling instability in Europe and the Middle East.

Washington defends the choice: ‘We support our allies’
The White House dismissed the criticism, claiming that the aim of the new measure is to ‘enhance the defensive capabilities of international partners and promote the competitiveness of the domestic weapons industry’. The plan also calls for greater integration between technical design and export requirements, with direct involvement of private industry from the early stages of development.

Pyongyang called the approach ‘hypocritical’, believing that US policy shows a clear double standard between diplomatic rhetoric and concrete acts.
