Iran attack in Bahrain, Qatar, and the UAE, defies presidential ceasefire

Iran attack in Bahrain, Qatar, and the UAE, defies presidential ceasefire

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards claim responsibility for a strike on a US military installation in Bahrain, contradicting President Pezeshkian’s announcement of halted operations. Explosions have been reported across Bahrain, Qatar, and the UAE

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have claimed an attack on a US military base in Bahrain, stating it was a retaliation for a recent American strike on Qeshm’s desalination plant. The operation occurred despite Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s announcement of a temporary halt to attacks on Gulf states.

The move highlights ongoing tensions in the region and contradicts Tehran’s official statements aimed at calming neighboring countries.

Explosions reported in multiple Gulf states

According to CNN, multiple detonations were reported in Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, and Qatar. Witnesses in Bahrain described strong blasts, though it was unclear whether they were caused by direct missile hits or by air defense intercepts.

The Iranian news agency Fars confirmed “significant explosions at US military installations in Bahrain.” AFP sources added that explosions were also heard in Doha, and Qatar’s Ministry of Defense reported intercepting a missile aimed at the country.

UAE air defenses respond

The United Arab Emirates activated air defense systems after multiple threats were detected. The UAE National Security Council advised residents to remain in safe locations. AFP reported a strong blast in Dubai, underscoring the scale of the incident.

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed al-Nahyan, UAE President, declared for the first time since the start of the Israeli-American military operation against Iran that the country is now “at war.” He affirmed the UAE’s commitment to protecting its people and territory, stating, “We are not easy prey.”

Tehran signals continued regional attacks

Iranian officials warned that attacks against Gulf countries supporting “the enemy” would continue. Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, judiciary chief and member of the interim leadership council, stated that evidence shows certain regional states allowed their territories to be used for operations against Iran.

Ejei confirmed that Iran’s military strategy will continue targeting states collaborating with foreign forces hostile to the Islamic Republic.

Countdown to the new Supreme Leader

In Iran, preparations are underway to select a new Supreme Leader following the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The Assembly of Experts is expected to convene within the next 24 hours to appoint a successor.

Ayatollah Mozafari, a member of the Assembly, told Fars that the 88 members must choose the new leader according to vilayat-e faqih, which requires a figure of high political and religious authority. The appointment will define the direction of Iran’s domestic and foreign policy amid rising tensions in the Gulf.
