Musk puts the brakes on new party: priority given to companies and relations with Vance

Tesla CEO reportedly puts “America Party” project on hold for fear of friction with Republicans

Elon Musk is proceeding cautiously with the idea of founding a new political party. According to the Wall Street Journal, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO has confided to his closest associates that he wants to focus his efforts on his companies, avoiding moves that could damage relations with the Republican establishment.

The decision is not final: Musk, the newspaper writes, may reconsider the idea as the 2026 midterms approach. However, at the end of July, a call with a group specialising in political campaigns was cancelled, signalling the decision to suspend contact. No official comment has been made by Musk or his spokespeople.

From the America Party project to doubts

At the beginning of July, Musk relaunched the idea of the America Party, a movement designed to attract voters dissatisfied with the two main parties. But the prospect of a new political entity would risk undermining the relationships built with prominent figures in the Republican Party, particularly Vice President JD Vance, with whom Musk has remained in contact in recent weeks.

The political future

According to the WSJ, Musk has confided to his aides that the creation of a new party could jeopardise the alliance with Vance. For this reason, internal assessments suggest that the possibility remains open to focus resources and support on the current vice president, should he decide to run for the White House in 2028.
