Iran rejects US pressure: Khamenei responds to Trump on nuclear talks

Iran’s Supreme Leader accuses Washington of using intimidation as a tool for dialogue

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has firmly stated that Tehran will not accept negotiations imposed by a ‘bully country’, in clear reference to the United States. The statement comes just hours after US President Donald Trump announced that he had sent a letter to the Iranian authorities to negotiate a new nuclear deal.

In an interview with Fox Business, Trump had indicated that there are two ways to handle the Iranian issue: ‘with military action or with an agreement’, reiterating the need to prevent Tehran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

Khamenei, during a speech at a religious gathering in Tehran, responded harshly: ‘The insistence of some countries on using intimidation as a method of negotiation will not be accepted by Iran’. He also stressed that these negotiations ‘do not aim to solve problems, but to dominate’ other states.

Meanwhile, Iran confirmed that it has not yet received any official communication from the US. Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, stated that despite Trump’s announcement, ‘we have not received anything yet’. The statements were made during an official reception for the Supreme Leader.
