4.7 magnitude earthquake shakes Lisbon: epicentre in Seixal

The tremor hit the metropolitan region of the Portuguese capital

An earthquake tremor of magnitude 4.7 was felt in the Lisbon region on Monday 17 February, with the epicentre located in the city of Seixal, in the capital’s metropolitan region. Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera (IPMA) confirmed the seismic event. The tremor was felt by residents at around 13:24 local time, and several people reported feeling the earth tremor. Portugal, located in a seismic zone, is prone to tremors of varying magnitude, and the possibility of more intense events is not excluded.
