Trump: “Ukraine should produce the Patriots itself”

Summit in Ankara with Zelensky: the US ready to transfer missile know-how. Russian air strikes on the Ukrainian capital: deaths and injuries; energy infrastructure in Russia also hit

“A little birdie told me that we’ll give Ukraine the rights to produce Patriot missiles.” With these words, US President Donald Trump announced a possible breakthrough in military cooperation with Kyiv during his bilateral meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky in Ankara.

Trump explained that Washington could provide the Ukrainians with the expertise to produce the defence systems independently: “We’ll show them how it’s done and we’ll discuss it later. That way, they won’t be able to complain any more that we’re not giving them enough.”

The US President also highlighted the improvement in relations with Zelensky: “Since the Oval Office, our relationship has become excellent. And this isn’t the end, but perhaps it’s just the beginning” .

Regarding Russia, Trump reported frequent contact with Vladimir Putin: “He wants the war to end, even though many people don’t believe it.” According to the tycoon, the conditions set by Moscow are evolving in a direction more favourable to Kyiv.

Zelensky confirmed that Russian demands “are changing”, emphasising that the conflict is increasingly being fought on a technological level: “It is no longer a question of the number of soldiers, but of technological superiority. We are faster at production, and that is making the difference.”

Meanwhile, the war on the ground continues. In a new Russian missile attack on Kyiv, one woman was killed and two other people were injured, Mayor Vitaly Klitschko reported. Several fires broke out in various neighbourhoods of the capital. The death toll from the previous raid has risen to 20, with 90 injured.

The attack, which began shortly after midnight, is the third against Kyiv in less than a week. Russian Shahed-type drones struck the city for hours, whilst the authorities urged the population to remain in shelters.

Kyiv responded by striking strategic targets on Russian territory. Zelensky confirmed attacks on an oil refinery in Saratov and a petrochemical plant in Tatarstan: “Ukraine is responding to the attacks and the ongoing war.”
