The United States-Iran ceasefire memorandum: Geneva Lake possible signing

The United States-Iran ceasefire memorandum: Geneva Lake possible signing

Negotiations continue over location and conditions as diplomatic framework advances between Washington and Tehran

Lake Geneva is being considered as a possible setting for the signing of the long-anticipated agreement framework between the United States and Iran, intended to outline a ceasefire still under negotiation. Despite this emerging option, uncertainty persists over both the venue and the final structure of the deal, with key points of disagreement remaining unresolved between the parties.

According to statements attributed to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, the so-called “Islamabad memorandum” is closer to completion than at any previous stage. However, its final approval still depends on an internal political process within the Islamic Republic, with particular attention focused on Iran’s leadership structure and on Mojtaba Khamenei.

In remarks broadcast on Iranian state television, Araghchi reaffirmed that Tehran’s position on highly enriched uranium stockpiles remains unchanged. He reiterated that the only viable approach, from Iran’s perspective, is the dilution of those stockpiles within Iranian territory, rejecting alternative arrangements under discussion.

The United States-Iran ceasefire memorandum is also expected to follow a non-traditional signature process. Araghchi indicated that, once the final phase of negotiations is completed, the document will be signed digitally through a remote procedure involving both sides. According to Tehran’s stated timeline, this step could take place within the coming days, although no definitive date has been confirmed.

He further added that the conclusion of the agreement would be followed by formal public confirmation, once remaining technical and political procedures are finalized. The timing of that announcement remains contingent on the completion of outstanding negotiations.
