Trump: ‘No US troops, Israel will cede Gaza control to us’

The US president insists on his plan for Gaza’s future: relocation of Palestinians to neighbouring countries and a new ‘Middle East Riviera’ without the presence of US troops

Donald Trump has reiterated his vision for the future of the Gaza Strip, declaring that Israel will cede control of the enclave to the US at the end of the conflict. The US president categorically ruled out the need for a US military presence in the region, assuring that his plan will bring stability without the direct involvement of the US military.

‘The United States, working with great development teams from around the world, would slowly and carefully begin the construction of what would become one of the largest and most spectacular developments of its kind on Earth,’ Trump said, reiterating that Gaza would be transformed into a “Middle East Riviera”.

In the plan outlined by the president, Palestinians would be relocated to neighbouring countries and resettled in ‘safer, more modern communities’. Trump then attacked Senate Democratic Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, calling him a ‘Palestinian’. The accusation stems from the senator’s recent criticism of Trump, whom Schumer has called ‘a law-breaking inconsiderate’. This is not the first time the president has used this term provocatively: in the past, he had called Schumer ‘a proud member of Hamas’, challenging the Democratic Party’s policy towards Israel.

The idea of turning Gaza over to the United States and rebuilding it without the presence of American soldiers raises numerous questions and reactions internationally, with many seeing the plan as unrealistic and disconnected from the political and social reality of the region.
