5 people charged in connection with death of One Direction singer Liam Payne: investigation into Argentina

Five individuals have been charged in connection with the death of Liam Payne in Buenos Aires. The British singer died after falling from a hotel balcony

Five people have been charged in connection with the death of former One Direction member Liam Payne on 16 October in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The 31-year-old singer died after falling from the third-floor balcony of a hotel, and the investigation now focuses on manslaughter and negligence.

Among the accused are the hotel manager, Gilda Martin, the receptionist Esteban Grassi, Payne’s friend Roger Nores, and two hotel employees, Ezequiel Pereyra and Braian Paiz, accused of supplying drugs to the singer. According to the Argentine prosecutor’s office, suspicions revolve around Payne’s death, which may have been influenced by his unconsciousness due to alcohol and drug abuse.

Judge Laura Bruniard has already decided to proceed with the next phase of the investigation, which could lead to a trial. The manslaughter charge is based on the fact that the actions of the five defendants created a life-threatening situation for Payne, who, according to medical reports, may have fallen into a semi-conscious state. Punishment for manslaughter could range from one to five years, while drug supply carries harsher penalties.

Toxicological examinations revealed traces of cocaine, alcohol and an antidepressant in Payne’s body, while the autopsy confirmed that the cause of death was multiple trauma from the fall. Following the incident, hotel staff had called the emergency services, reporting Payne’s substance abuse and damage to the room.

Liam Payne’s death shook the music world, with his former bandmates Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik attending his funeral in November, along with his fiancée and former partner Cheryl.
