Trump Jokes About His Makeup Use While Mocking Georgia Democrat Ossoff
At a campaign rally in Dalton, Georgia, the president offered a rare personal admission about cosmetics before turning the moment into an attack on Democratic Sen. John Ossoff during a lengthy midterm campaign speech
DALTON, Ga. — President Donald Trump delivered a familiar mix of political attacks, economic messaging and criticism of what he calls the “fake news media” during a campaign rally in northwest Georgia, but one of the event’s most unusual moments came when he turned the spotlight on his own appearance.
Speaking before supporters in Dalton ahead of the November midterm elections, Trump made a candid remark about his use of cosmetics while drawing a contrast with Democratic Sen. John Ossoff of Georgia.
“I wear very little makeup. I do it myself,” Trump told the crowd. He went on to explain his reasoning, saying that “if you don’t put a little makeup on, you look like a dead person. I don’t want to look that way.”
The president quickly shifted from the personal aside to an attack on Ossoff, using the senator’s appearance as the basis for a joke aimed at energizing the audience.
“John Ossoff has more money in makeup than any man or woman in the history of the Senate,” Trump said. “The women are not happy about it. He spent a fortune.”
The exchange stood out during a rally that lasted well over an hour and largely followed Trump’s established campaign format. The president highlighted what he described as achievements in the economy and foreign policy, ridiculed political opponents facing Republican candidates and renewed his attacks on major media organizations.
While Trump’s remarks about Ossoff were delivered as a punchline, his acknowledgment that he uses makeup represented a relatively uncommon public admission. For years, the president’s distinctive complexion, often characterized by a noticeable orange hue, has fueled widespread speculation about the use of cosmetic products during his time in the White House.
