White House Spokeswoman Katie Zacharia May Exit Role Days After Appointment
Just five days into her tenure, Katie Zacharia is facing mounting pressure after allegations she falsely claimed to be a licensed attorney, prompting even President Donald Trump to suggest she reconsider staying on
The tenure of White House spokesperson Katie Zacharia may already be nearing its end less than a week after it began.
According to a senior adviser to President Donald Trump who spoke to Axios, Zacharia is expected to step down from her newly appointed position within “a few days,” following a controversy surrounding her professional credentials.
The dispute erupted shortly after Zacharia assumed the role five days ago, when questions emerged about her repeated claims of being a lawyer. The allegations center on assertions that she never passed the bar exam despite presenting herself as an attorney.
The controversy has quickly escalated to the point that Trump himself publicly acknowledged encouraging her to reconsider whether remaining in the position was worthwhile.
“I told her, ‘If I were you, I’d think about it,’” Trump said while speaking with reporters.
The president went on to describe a private conversation with Zacharia, recalling that he asked her directly whether she truly wanted to continue under the circumstances.
“Is this what you want, Katie? Honestly, you don’t need it,” Trump said, recounting the exchange.
Despite offering that advice, Trump emphasized that the final decision rests entirely with Zacharia.
“I’ll let her make that decision,” the president said.
At the same time, Trump defended her personal character while criticizing the intensity of the scrutiny she has faced since taking office.
“She’s been treated very harshly. She’s a good person,” Trump said. “I just want her to be happy.”
