Prince William strategy on Harry and Meghan: a deliberate silence

An Express editorial suggests the Prince and Princess of Wales may maintain a low‑key approach as the Sussexes settle back in the UK

A commentary published by the Express argues that Prince William may be adopting a deliberate, measured silence in response to the recent return of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to the United Kingdom. According to columnist Chris Riches, the Prince and Princess of Wales appear intent on maintaining a discreet posture as the Sussexes reestablish themselves in Britain.

Riches describes the approach as a strategic choice: withholding public reactions, keeping “their cards close,” and avoiding any escalation. In his view, such restraint could frustrate the Sussexes, who have resumed professional activities and public engagements since relocating.

The editorial reflects on Harry’s earlier public image, recalling a period when he was widely seen as a spirited and resilient figure within the British royal family. Riches notes that Harry was once admired for overcoming personal tragedy, championing military causes and maintaining close ties with his brother, sister‑in‑law and father.

The tone, he argues, shifted after the publication of Harry’s 2023 memoir, Spare, in which the Duke offered candid and sometimes critical reflections on family relationships. Riches writes that the book marked a turning point in public perception and contributed to a more complex dynamic within the royal household.

The commentary concludes by citing a source who claims that William and Catherine intend to “ignore” the Sussexes as they settle into life in the UK — even though the two couples now live only a short distance apart. According to the editorial, this low‑profile approach is seen as a way to preserve stability within the Wales household while avoiding unnecessary tension.
