New Year’s Eve terror plot in North Carolina thwarted after the FBI identified a suspect inspired by ISIS
The FBI announced that it has foiled a New Year’s Eve terror plot in North Carolina, preventing a potential attack planned for the night of 31 December. The information was released by the federal agency in a post published on X.
According to the FBI, the suspect involved in the New Year’s Eve terror plot in North Carolina was “directly inspired” by ISIS ideology. Authorities did not disclose specific operational details but confirmed that the intervention took place before any imminent threat could materialise.
FBI Director Kash Patel publicly thanked the law enforcement partners involved in the operation, stating that their coordinated action “undoubtedly saved lives”. The agency praised the effectiveness of inter-agency cooperation in neutralising the threat ahead of the New Year celebrations.
