Trump Backs Netanyahu Ahead of Israeli Vote, Warns Against New Leadership
With Israelis set to vote on October 27, the U.S. president delivers an unusually direct endorsement of Benjamin Netanyahu, tying the election outcome to the campaign against Iran and the future of U.S.-Israel coordination
Just days before Israelis head to the polls, President Donald Trump has stepped squarely into the political spotlight surrounding the race, offering what he described as his “total and complete support” for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and casting the election as a critical moment for the fight against Iran.
In a lengthy Truth Social post, Trump portrayed Netanyahu as a proven ally who has weathered political challenges without retreating. The U.S. president argued that the Israeli leader had faced intense resistance, including from within Israel, yet emerged stronger rather than weakened.
“Bibi Netanyahu has been strong, brave and brilliant in the face of enormous opposition, even from within Israel itself,” Trump wrote. “He didn’t bend under the pressure, but became even stronger.”
Trump framed Netanyahu not simply as Israel’s prime minister, but as a central figure in the strategic partnership between the two countries. Calling him “a great fighting Prime Minister and an even more important partner for peace,” Trump said Netanyahu embodies the kind of leadership Washington expects from its closest Middle Eastern ally.
“That is the kind of partner the United States of America asks of Israel,” he wrote. “Bibi Netanyahu will never let you down!”
The endorsement went beyond praise. Trump warned that a victory by any candidate other than Netanyahu could complicate efforts to contain Iran, suggesting that the burden could increasingly fall on Washington if Israel chooses a different course.
“If Israel gets the wrong leader, namely anyone other than Bibi, America will have to do this job alone, and I am not inclined to do that,” Trump said.
The president also delivered a forceful assessment of Tehran’s position, asserting that Iran has been “systematically destroyed, both militarily and financially.” He added that unless the Iranian government rapidly changes direction, the United States would “finish the job soon.”
Netanyahu responded within hours, publicly welcoming the endorsement and emphasizing his partnership with Trump.
“Thank you for the enormous support and partnership. Together we will complete the mission!” the Israeli prime minister wrote on X.
His message was accompanied by a video compilation featuring several occasions in which Trump praised Netanyahu’s leadership and highlighted the relationship between the two leaders.
As campaigning enters its final stretch before Tuesday’s vote, Trump’s intervention places the American president firmly on Netanyahu’s side, linking the outcome of the election to the broader regional confrontation with Iran and the future direction of U.S.-Israeli cooperation.
