Queen Camilla Opens Up About King Charles III’s Cancer Diagnosis
In a new Buckingham Palace video, Camilla describes the difficulty of keeping her husband’s diagnosis private and says the experience brought the couple closer
Queen Camilla has spoken publicly for the first time about the difficult period that followed King Charles III’s cancer diagnosis in February 2024, recalling how hard it was to keep the news private while supporting her husband.
In a new video released by Buckingham Palace, Camilla discusses the King’s illness, the details of which have never been disclosed. She was interviewed by Laura Lee, CEO of Maggie’s Centres, a charity that supports people affected by cancer.
“At that time, nobody could say anything. It was quite difficult. I was going to say something, but I felt it wasn’t the right time,” Camilla said. She will turn 80 next year.

The experience, she said, ultimately brought the couple closer together. “Nothing stopped him. He just said, ‘I’ll beat this too,’” Camilla recalled.
She also described how her husband’s diagnosis gave her a deeper understanding of what other families go through when cancer enters their lives.
“Suddenly, it’s your husband who gets a diagnosis, and you have to help him and try to understand everything,” she said.
More than two years after his diagnosis, King Charles III remains in treatment for cancer. Buckingham Palace has reiterated that his health continues to improve.
