British artist found fatally injured in Silvertown as police launch murder investigation
Talay Riley stabbed to death in London. The Grammy-winning British songwriter, born Mark Orabiyi, has died at the age of 35 after a fatal stabbing in East London.
Police confirmed that Riley was found seriously injured in the garden of a residential property in Silvertown on the morning of June 5. Emergency responders attended the scene but were unable to save him, pronouncing him dead shortly after arrival.
Authorities have opened a murder investigation. Detective Inspector Joanna Yorke, who is leading the inquiry, described the case as “a tragic incident” and expressed sympathy for the victim’s family. Investigators have appealed for witnesses, particularly anyone who may have been in the area at the time or who holds CCTV footage or other recordings that could assist the inquiry.
Three people were arrested in the hours following the attack on suspicion of murder. A 27-year-old man was later released on bail pending further inquiries, while a 24-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman were released with no further action.
Born in London on July 10, 1990, Riley built a prominent career as a songwriter and producer. Between 2013 and 2015, he wrote for major international artists including Usher, Nick Jonas, Iggy Azalea, Chris Brown and the group Pentatonix.
His work extended across pop and R&B at the highest commercial level. In 2016, Britney Spears recorded his track “Clumsy” for the album *Glory*, while Dua Lipa released “Last Dance,” one of her earliest breakout singles.
Riley’s most prestigious recognition came through his collaboration with H.E.R., the stage name of Gabriella Sarmiento Wilson. He contributed to the song “Lights On,” featured on the artist’s self-titled album, which won a Grammy Award in 2017.
He also achieved chart success as a performer. In 2011, his single “Make You Mine” reached the UK charts, and throughout his career he shared stages with artists including Skepta, Usher and Trey Songz.
