UPDATE AT 6:38 PM – CAN YAMAN HAS BEEN RELEASED

Turkish actor Can Yaman, star of DayDreamer and Sandokan, arrested in a major anti-drug raid in Istanbul

Turkish actor Can Yaman arrested in Turkey today during a nationwide anti-drug operation, sending shockwaves through international entertainment circles. Known for his roles in hit series like DayDreamer and Italy’s Viola come il mare as well as the recent Rai reboot of Sandokan, Yaman has captivated audiences far beyond his home country.

Born in Istanbul on November 8, 1989, to a lawyer and a literature teacher, Yaman developed a strong connection with Italy early on. He graduated from the Italian High School in Istanbul, mastering the Italian language, and initially pursued a law degree. However, at 24, he left the legal profession to follow his true passion: acting.

Yaman’s career took off in 2017 with Bitter Sweet – Ingredienti d’amore, but his global breakthrough came with DayDreamer – Le ali del sogno (2018–2019), alongside Demet Özdemir. The series propelled him to international fame, earning him recognition as a sex symbol and GQ’s “Man of the Year” in 2019.

His popularity in Italy grew steadily. In 2021, he appeared in a high-profile commercial for De Cecco pasta directed by Ferzan Özpetek alongside Claudia Gerini and made a cameo in the sixth season of Che Dio ci aiuti. Between 2022 and 2024, Yaman co-starred with Francesca Chillemi in Viola come il mare, playing Inspector Francesco Demir. In 2025, he solidified his status as a leading actor with the miniseries Il Turco and the ambitious Rai reboot of Sandokan, stepping into the legendary role originally portrayed by Kabir Bedi.

The news of Can Yaman arrested in Turkey has sparked widespread discussion on social media, with fans and industry insiders closely following updates from local authorities. Yaman’s career, bridging Turkish and Italian media, highlights the global reach of contemporary television stars.
