Accident in Bolivia: 31 killed and 15 injured when a bus overturns

Tragedy on the Potosí-Oruro road: speeding causes disaster

A serious accident took place today on the road linking the departments of Potosí and Oruro, Bolivia, when a public transport bus plunged down an 800-metre escarpment. The toll is dramatic: 31 dead and 15 injured. The vehicle, which belongs to the San José company, fell while negotiating a curve with excessive speed, near the bridge in the municipality of Yocalla, in the province of Tomás Frías.

The 15 injured were rushed to the Daniel Bracamonte Hospital in Potosí, and among them are four minors, two of whom are in a reserved prognosis and undergoing intensive care. In addition, two of the other eleven injured adults have already been operated on for serious injuries. It is not yet known whether any non-Bolivians are among the victims.
