New York, woman burned alive on subway train: man throws lit match

Tragedy at Coney Island, investigation ongoing into victim’s death

A woman was burned alive this morning in New York while sleeping on the subway’s F train near the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue station. According to police sources, a man allegedly threw a lit match at her, causing the fire that enveloped the victim. Officers responded after a report of fire around 7:30 a.m., finding the woman in serious condition. It is unclear whether liquor bottles found near the body played a role in the fire. One suspect, caught on video, has been identified by authorities: he is a man between 25 and 30 years old, about 6 feet tall. Police released the images to try to identify him.
