Violence broke out at a private party in Little River, near Myrtle Beach, over Memorial Day weekend

At least eleven people were injured in a shooting that occurred last night in Little River, a South Carolina seaside resort, near a pier along the coastal road. According to reports from the Horry County Police Department, among the injured was an officer of the North Myrtle Beach Police, who was shot in the leg while intervening at the scene.

The incident occurred during a private party organised on board a rented boat that was moored at the time of the incident. The authorities specified that it was an isolated incident, which originated from an argument that broke out on board during the Memorial Day weekend celebrations.

Several of the injured were also transported to hospital by private vehicles, but no further official details on the medical conditions of all those involved were given. However, the police confirmed that some are in a critical but stable condition.

Investigations are still ongoing to identify the perpetrator – or perpetrators – of the shooting.
