The Atlantic publishes Yemen raid plans shared on Signal by Pete Hegseth

Jeffrey Goldberg publishes messages from the U.S. Secretary of Defense containing details of air raids in Yemen spread on Signal in error. The White House denies the presence of classified information

The Atlantic today published messages containing operational plans for air raids in Yemen mistakenly shared via the Signal messaging app by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Jeffrey Goldberg, editor of the magazine, revealed that he was mistakenly entered into the chat by National Security Adviser Mike Waltz. In the messages, Hegseth provides details about the fighter jets’ takeoff times and confirms CENTCOM’s authorization of the mission.

Goldberg decided to make the messages public, stressing that “the public has a right to see this content to draw their own conclusions.” He also pointed out the risks of using an unsecured platform like Signal for communications of such a sensitive nature.

The White House, through spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt, reacted by stating that the messages did not contain classified information or war plans, rejecting allegations of negligence and calling the publication “an attempt at sensationalism.”
