Trump raises tariffs to 15% effective immediately

The president escalates global trade duties a day after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down his previous tariff measures

Trump raises tariffs to 15% effective immediately, escalating his trade policy just one day after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the global tariff measures he had previously imposed.

The president announced the increase on Truth, stating that the new rate would apply worldwide and replace the 10% level he had indicated the day before. The move follows the Court’s ruling rejecting his earlier tariff framework.

In his post, Trump defended the decision, writing that as President of the United States he is raising global tariffs to 15%, a level he described as “fully permitted and legally tested.” He said the decision was based on what he called a careful and comprehensive reading of the Supreme Court’s ruling, which he criticized as “ridiculous, poorly written and extraordinarily anti-American.”

Response to the Supreme Court ruling

Trump raises tariffs to 15% effective immediately as a direct response to the Court’s decision. According to the president, the ruling came after months of deliberation and improperly limited his authority on trade policy.

He reiterated that many countries had taken advantage of the United States for decades “without any punishment” until his administration imposed tariffs.

New tariff framework coming

The president also said that in the coming months — “a few months,” he specified — the administration will determine and publish new legally authorized tariffs designed to continue what he described as the highly successful process of “Make America Great Again.”

Trump raises tariffs to 15% effective immediately while preparing a broader restructuring of U.S. trade measures intended to withstand judicial scrutiny.

Praise for dissenting justices

In a separate post on Truth, Trump praised the three Supreme Court justices who dissented in the tariff ruling: Brett Kavanaugh, Clarence Thomas, and Samuel Alito.

Calling Kavanaugh his “new hero,” Trump said there was no doubt that the dissenting justices want to make America great again, echoing his campaign slogan.

Trump raises tariffs to 15% effective immediately, setting up a renewed confrontation between the executive branch and the judiciary and signaling further shifts in U.S. trade policy in the months ahead.
