A reputation built on decades of duty, discretion and loyalty has propelled King Charles’ sister to the top of a new popularity ranking
Relentlessly hardworking, fiercely loyal and rarely the source of controversy, Princess Anne has become the most popular member of the British royal family, surpassing even Kate Middleton in the eyes of the public.
A new YouGov survey places the Princess Royal at the top of the rankings with a 67% approval rating among Britons. The result makes the 76-year-old sister of King Charles the most favored royal in the country and reinforces a reputation she has cultivated for decades through an unwavering commitment to public service.
For many Britons, Anne embodies a form of royal duty that has become increasingly rare. Known for carrying out hundreds of official engagements every year, she has long been admired for a work ethic that leaves little room for fanfare, complaints or distractions. Her dedication earned her deep respect from Queen Elizabeth II, who viewed her daughter as a model of public service.
The latest poll shows Anne ahead of Kate Middleton, who ranks second with 64% approval. Prince William follows with 62%, while King Charles records 53%. Queen Camilla places eighth on the list with an approval rating of 33%.
The survey also highlights a recent rise in Anne’s standing. Since July 1, the Princess Royal has gained six percentage points, a development observers attribute not only to her extensive schedule of royal duties but also to her steadfast support for the monarchy.
French royal magazine Point de Vue noted that Anne attends between 400 and 500 official engagements every year and has accumulated more than 20,000 public appearances since 1968. According to the publication, British voters increasingly recognize her unwavering loyalty as one of her defining characteristics.
That assessment is shared by Wesley Kerr, a royal expert who served as a BBC royal correspondent during the 1990s. In his view, Anne’s relationship with her brother has played a significant role in strengthening her public image.
“Anne demonstrates complete discretion and unconditional love for her brother, understands King Charles’ character and background, and is deeply committed to his success,” Kerr said.
For the royal commentator, those qualities make Princess Anne nothing less than “the monarchy’s most powerful secret weapon.”
