Trump’s Gaza peace plan, Netanyahu at the White House: official apology to Doha for attack

VIDEO – The Israeli prime minister meets Donald Trump to discuss the 21-point plan on Gaza as mediation and protests continue, following the Israeli prime minister’s official apology to al-Thani

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with US President Donald Trump at the White House today to discuss the Trump Gaza peace plan, a 21-point project aimed at restoring stability to the Strip. “I am very confident that there will soon be peace in Gaza and that everyone will agree on the peace plan,” Trump told reporters before the meeting, the fourth between the two leaders since the US president took office on January 20.

Trump’s Gaza peace plan: Netanyahu calls Al-Thani and apologizes for the raid

Meanwhile, according to Axios journalist Barak Ravid, Netanyahu called Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman al-Thani to apologize for the September 9 raid in Doha that targeted Hamas leadership. During the conversation, the Israeli leader expressed regret for the death of a Qatari security guard. The apology was a condition set by Doha for resuming mediation with Hamas, which is necessary for Trump’s Gaza peace plan.

CNN sources report that Qatar, which has long been involved in mediation to end the conflict, has assured Trump that it can convince Hamas to accept an agreement that includes the demilitarization of the Strip. The US president himself spoke with Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani before the summit with Netanyahu. A Qatari adviser reportedly visited the White House a few hours before the meeting between the two leaders.

Meanwhile, protests were held in Tel Aviv in front of the US diplomatic mission. According to the Israeli website Ynet, about 100 protesters demanded an agreement for the release of hostages held in Gaza, just as the White House was discussing Trump’s Gaza peace plan.

Shortly before Netanyahu’s arrival, a Secret Service SUV caught fire near the White House, causing the closure of several roads. The fire, which broke out in the rear of the vehicle, caused no injuries.
