Washington Post sources report pressure inside the US Treasury for a commemorative $250 bill featuring Donald Trump, tied to the 250th anniversary of the United States
The idea of a $250 banknote featuring Donald Trump is being described by critics as another step in presidential megalomania, according to sources cited by the Washington Post. The proposal is linked to preparations for the 250th anniversary of the United States.
According to the report, several officials within the US Treasury allegedly pushed for the creation of a commemorative bill featuring Trump’s portrait. The initiative reportedly included draft designs and prototype concepts, with symbolic references to the American flag and the national anniversary.
The plan, however, reportedly faced internal resistance on legal and procedural grounds. Current US regulations allow only deceased individuals to be depicted on currency.
Patricia Solimene, head of the bureau responsible for printing currency, was reportedly reassigned after raising concerns about regulatory barriers and the timeline required for such an issuance.
The Treasury Department stated that the responsible office is engaged in standard planning and review activities, but emphasized that any new currency issuance would require approval from Congress.
Sources also indicate that preliminary discussions are underway regarding new $100 bills bearing Donald Trump’s signature as part of the “America 250” celebrations.
