Royal Estate Murder Charge After Norfolk GP Found Dead at Home

A respected physician linked by British media reports to the Royal Family was discovered unresponsive inside her Dersingham home. Her husband has now been charged with murder

The death of a Norfolk doctor who reportedly treated members of the Royal Family has sent shockwaves through a village on the Sandringham Estate, after her husband was charged with murder days after her body was discovered inside the couple’s home.

Hannah Terry, 45, also known as Hannah Cain, was found dead on Sunday at a property on Fern Hill in Dersingham, a village closely associated with the royal estate in western Norfolk. On Tuesday evening, police formally charged her husband, Mark Cain, 45, in connection with her death.

Cain appeared before Norwich Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday morning. Wearing a black sweatshirt, he spoke only briefly during the hearing, confirming his identity, age and address. District Judge Matthew Bone ordered that he remain in custody ahead of a further court appearance scheduled for Thursday.

Details disclosed in court provided the first indication of the injuries identified during the investigation. Prosecutor Jacqui Hanlo said emergency responders located Dr. Terry in an upstairs bedroom where she was unconscious and not breathing.

According to the prosecution, a post-mortem examination found a blunt-force injury to the right side of her head. The examination also identified an injury that may be consistent with compression of the neck. Hanlo further told the court that children were present at the property when emergency services attended the scene.

Dr. Terry was a member of the clinical team at Grimston Medical Centre, where colleagues paid tribute through a brief statement issued after her death. The practice closed its doors on Monday and Tuesday before reopening on Wednesday, saying it would not comment on “the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of our colleague, Dr Hannah Terry.”

The case has attracted widespread attention across the United Kingdom because of Dr. Terry’s reported professional links to the Royal Family. British newspapers, including the Daily Mail, reported that she had treated several royals over the years, particularly Queen Camilla. Those reports stated that both Queen Camilla and King Charles had been informed of the circumstances surrounding her death.

Dersingham, where the investigation remains centered, forms part of the wider Sandringham Estate, one of the Royal Family’s most closely associated residences. The combination of the village’s royal connections and the serious criminal allegations now before the courts has placed the case under intense national scrutiny as proceedings move forward.
