Negotiations in Gaza: Trump ‘Close to peace’, Netanyahu ‘Good to free hostages, IDF remains in Gaza’

Talks between Israel and Hamas for peace are set to begin shortly in Egypt, with each of the two contenders claiming their own positions, albeit with different nuances

These are decisive hours for the negotiations in Gaza, which began after Hamas’ positive response to US President Donald Trump’s plan. The tycoon told Barak Ravid of Axios: ‘We are close to a peace agreement in Gaza. In the coming days, I will work to implement my plan. Israel must approve it without hesitation.’

Negotiations in Gaza: Trump thanks Netanyahu

Trump stressed that Israel’s temporary halt to bombing offers an opportunity to complete the release of hostages. ‘Hamas must act quickly, otherwise everything will be cancelled,’ warned the American president, reiterating the need to proceed fairly and swiftly.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that he had coordinated a decisive diplomatic move with Trump. ‘We hope to announce the return of all our hostages during the Sukkot holiday, while keeping the IDF well positioned in the Gaza Strip,’ he said. Netanyahu also confirmed that the Israeli negotiating team led by Minister Ron Dermer had been sent to Cairo to finalise the technical details of the hostages’ release.

Negotiations in Gaza: discussion on exchange in Egypt on Monday

Egypt will host delegations from Israel and Hamas on Monday to discuss the terms of the prisoner exchange, in line with President Trump’s proposal. According to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, the meeting is part of efforts to end the war and the suffering of the Palestinian people, which has persisted for two consecutive years.
