Man Arrested Near White House After Threatening to Kill Trump
The Venezuelan suspect allegedly told Secret Service agents that voices in his head had ordered him to travel to Washington and assassinate the president. Three firearms were found inside a stolen car
A stolen car parked just south of the White House contained three firearms, including a rifle, and dozens of rounds of ammunition when Secret Service agents searched it Thursday night. The man inside allegedly told officers that voices in his head had instructed him to travel to Washington to kill President Donald Trump.
The suspect, a Venezuelan national whom U.S. authorities say was in the country illegally, was arrested along Constitution Avenue after agents noticed what they described as suspicious behavior inside the parked vehicle. A search revealed the weapons and ammunition, as well as the fact that the car had been reported stolen.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, the man told agents that he had come to Washington because voices were directing him to assassinate Trump. Authorities have not provided further details about the alleged statements or the circumstances surrounding the threat.
The suspect faces charges including the illegal transportation and possession of firearms. The discovery of multiple weapons near the presidential residence prompted the arrest, though the available information does not establish whether he had taken any further steps toward carrying out the alleged plan.
