Trump Can’t Avoid Looking Ridiculous: Shares AI Video After Man Is Mauled by Tiger
The president’s latest social media stunt has drawn outrage from the family of a young British man killed by a Siberian tiger, turning an already devastating tragedy into a flashpoint for criticism
Just when silence might have been the wiser option, President Donald Trump once again placed himself at the center of a tragedy that had nothing to do with him.
Trump has come under fire after sharing on Truth Social a video connected to the death of William Chapman, the 23-year-old British man who was killed by a Siberian tiger at Yorkshire Wildlife Park in Doncaster, northern England. The post was accompanied by the remark, “Don’t mess with nature.”
Rather than stopping there, Trump escalated the controversy by sharing an AI-generated clip showing himself confronting a tiger before smiling and embracing the animal. The surreal imagery quickly sparked criticism, with many questioning the judgment behind turning a fatal incident into social media content.
For Chapman’s family, however, the matter is far from political theater.
Relatives said they were “completely devastated” by the loss of the 23-year-old and condemned the online content as “deeply offensive.” According to the family, the continued circulation of the videos has caused significant distress and intensified their suffering during an already unbearable period of grief.
They remembered Chapman as a bright, affable and likeable young man who was deeply loved by those around him, urging the public to stop sharing material connected to his death.
The family also revealed that Chapman had struggled with a severe mental illness for several years and had been prescribed powerful medication. Any determination regarding the role his condition may have played in the events leading to his death, they stressed, should be made by the coroner overseeing the investigation.
As attention shifted toward Trump’s posts, Chapman’s relatives issued a simple appeal for dignity and respect. They asked that people refrain from spreading the content and allow them to mourn without being forced to repeatedly confront images linked to the tragedy.
“Please show respect,” the family said, warning that the online circulation of the material was inflicting further pain at a time of exceptional vulnerability.
What began as a personal tragedy has now become the latest example of Trump’s seemingly endless ability to draw attention to himself, even in circumstances where restraint might have been the more appropriate response. For Chapman’s family, meanwhile, the focus remains where they believe it should have been all along: the loss of a young man whose death has become public spectacle.
At what point does the President of the United States, the world’s most powerful officeholder, stop behaving like an attention-seeking provocateur and start acting with the dignity the office demands?
