Israel, Zamir after Abu Obeida’s killing: ‘We will also target Hamas leaders abroad’

Chief of Staff warns: ‘We will also reach those outside the Strip’

The warning after the elimination of Abu Obeida – After the death of Hamas spokesman Abu Obeida, Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir sent a direct message to the leadership of the Islamist movement. ‘Now most of Hamas’ leadership resides abroad, we will also get to them,’ he said.

Leaders take refuge in Qatar and Turkey – According to Israeli sources, many of the Palestinian group’s leaders are now outside the Gaza Strip, particularly in Qatar and Turkey. Among them are Khaled Meshaal, former head of the political bureau, Khalil al-Hayya and Razi Hammad.

Escalation of Israeli threats – Zamir’s words come amid growing pressure from Israel, which after months of war is reiterating its goal of dismantling not only Hamas’ military wing in the Strip, but also its political and command structures abroad.
