Marine Le Pen and eight MEPs convicted of embezzlement
The total damage is estimated at €2.9 million
Marine Le Pen and eight MEPs from her party, the Rassemblement National, were found guilty of embezzling public funds. The sentence was handed down by the Paris court, where Le Pen and 23 other party members are being heard today. The sentences, which will be announced separately, have not yet been released.
In addition, the 12 assistants tried together with the MEPs were found guilty of receiving stolen goods. The court estimated the total damage at EUR 2.9 million, as the European Parliament financed people who actually worked for the French far-right party.
