Italian Fighters Scrambled Again After Russian Military Jets Breach Lithuanian Airspace
Two Russian military aircraft entered Lithuanian airspace, triggering a new intervention by the Italian Air Force’s Baltic Thunder III Task Force just days after Eurofighters were deployed against a suspected Russian drone
Two Russian military aircraft breached Lithuanian airspace, prompting a new intervention by the Italian Air Force’s Baltic Thunder III Task Force.
Two fighters were scrambled from their base in Lithuania to intercept the aircraft and escort them out of Alliance airspace.
The latest incident comes only days after another operation involving Italian fighter jets over Lithuania.
In that case, a drone arriving from Belarus entered Lithuanian airspace. According to reports, the unmanned aircraft was very likely Russian.
Italian Eurofighters were scrambled in response. The aircraft intercepted the drone and destroyed it while it was still airborne.
Just days later, the Baltic Thunder III Task Force was scrambled again, this time after two Russian military jets breached Lithuanian airspace.
