Macron rejects request for his resignation: ‘Political fiction, I will stay until 2027’

The French president defends his mandate and says he is confident that the Barnier government will hold on

Emmanuel Macron firmly rejects rumours about his possible resignation, calling them ‘political fiction’. Speaking from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, during an official visit, the French president said he had never considered leaving the Elysée Palace before the end of his term, scheduled for 2027.

Confidence in the government

The political climate in France is tense: the government led by Michel Barnier risks a no-confidence motion promoted by the left. Macron, however, is optimistic: ‘I cannot believe in a vote of no confidence. I have faith in the coherence of the people,’ he said, emphasising that his priority remains the stability of the country.

The president levelled harsh criticism at the Rassemblement National, accusing it of ‘unbearable cynicism’ if it were to support a motion originating from the left-wing opposition, which according to Macron ‘insults its voters’. Critical words also for the Socialist Party, which with the support of François Hollande would show, according to Macron, a ‘total loss of orientation’.

‘I will stay until the end’

Macron rejected any hypothesis of an early resignation, emphasising his commitment to completing the mandate given to him by the French people: ‘I was elected twice and I will honour this trust with all the energy that belongs to me until the last second to be useful to the country,’ he reiterated.
