Trump Says Iran War Could End “Very Soon” as Pentagon Weighs MOAB Option
The president says the conflict would end whenever he decides, while reports indicate U.S. military planners have examined scenarios involving the largest non-nuclear bomb in the American arsenal
President Donald Trump said the war against Iran could come to an end whenever he chooses, projecting confidence about the conflict even as reports emerged that the Pentagon has been studying expanded military options, including the possible use of the largest non-nuclear bomb in the U.S. arsenal.
“The war against Iran will end very soon. The moment I want it to end, it will end. They will never have nuclear weapons,” Trump told reporters in Montana before boarding Air Force One following a campaign rally ahead of the November 2026 midterm elections.
His remarks came as CNN reported that U.S. military planners have developed new strike scenarios targeting Iran and are evaluating whether the GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast bomb, commonly known as the MOAB or “Mother of All Bombs,” could be employed if Trump orders additional attacks on the Islamic Republic.
The plans under review are not limited to nuclear-related targets. Sources familiar with the military discussions told CNN that potential operations also include strikes against Iranian energy infrastructure and other strategic assets. One location reportedly considered in planning scenarios is Pickaxe Mountain, a site suspected by the United States of housing components linked to Iran’s nuclear program.
Military options outlined in the planning process could be considered either before or after the U.S. midterm elections scheduled for Nov. 3, 2026, according to the sources cited by the network.
The GBU-43/B is the most powerful conventional weapon in the American arsenal. Weighing approximately 9.7 tons, the bomb is designed to generate a massive blast wave capable of causing extensive destruction across a wide area.
Any decision to deploy the weapon against Iran would mark its first use in that conflict and represent a significant escalation. At the same time, questions remain about whether such a strike would achieve the strategic objectives outlined by Trump or substantially alter the course of the war.
As attention focused on the military options reportedly under consideration, Trump maintained that Iran would never acquire nuclear weapons and suggested the timeline for ending the conflict ultimately rests with him.
