Sahara Ray, Australian Model and Swimwear Founder, Dies at 34
After building a career that spanned fashion, entrepreneurship and social media, Sahara Ray became a familiar name to millions. Her family announced her death without disclosing a cause
Sahara Ray, the Australian model, entrepreneur and social media personality whose career extended from swimwear campaigns to her own fashion label, has died at the age of 34.
Her family confirmed the news, saying Ray died in a hospital while surrounded by relatives. No cause of death was provided.
“She passed away last night in the hospital, surrounded by her family. She was deeply loved,” her family told TMZ.
Ray had recently entered a new stage of her life. Just a few months ago, she welcomed her first child, a daughter named Snow. The loss comes after a year in which she had spoken publicly about serious health struggles stemming from a rare neurological condition.
In 2024, Ray revealed that she had been battling Guillain-Barré syndrome, a disorder she said left her partially paralyzed following a severe car accident. By sharing her experience, she offered followers an unusually candid account of recovery, rehabilitation and the challenges of living with a condition that affects the nervous system.
Long before that, Ray had established herself in the fashion world through modeling work with major swimwear brands. As social media transformed the industry, she built a substantial following on Instagram and leveraged that visibility into a business of her own, launching the swimwear company Sahara Ray Swim.
Her public profile expanded dramatically in 2016, when she was photographed vacationing in Hawaii with Justin Bieber. The images generated widespread media attention and fueled speculation about a relationship between the two. Neither ever publicly confirmed that they were romantically involved.
Ray also came from a well-known Australian surfing family. Her father, Tony Ray, is regarded as a surfing legend, and his name carried significant recognition within the sport long before his daughter became a figure in the fashion and entertainment worlds.
Across modeling, business and social media, Ray cultivated an international audience over the course of her career. Announcing her death, relatives remembered her simply as someone who was deeply loved by those closest to her.
