Zelensky and Trump meeting at the White House focuses on Patriots and diplomacy

The Ukrainian president described the closed-door talks with the U.S. leader as an “excellent meeting,” with discussions centered on interceptor production for Patriot systems and efforts to advance diplomatic negotiations with Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described his meeting with Donald Trump at the White House as an “excellent meeting,” following more than an hour of closed-door talks in the Oval Office.

The meeting took place without statements before the talks and without any interaction with reporters afterward. Zelensky later shared details of the discussion through his Telegram account, highlighting both military support and diplomatic efforts to end the war with Russia.

“We discussed with the president licenses for the production of Patriot interceptors and other ideas that could be useful,” Zelensky wrote, referring to possible measures aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s air defense capabilities.

The Ukrainian leader said the two also addressed diplomacy and the need to accelerate negotiations. “It is important to give further momentum to the diplomatic process” to bring the war with Russia to an end, he said.

“Our teams will coordinate the details of the next communications,” Zelensky added, thanking the United States for its “strong support” and for its commitment “to protect the lives of Ukrainians and achieve peace.”

The Ukrainian president also expressed his condolences to Trump over the death of Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, whom he described as “a true friend of Ukraine.”

During his visit to Washington, Zelensky is expected to pay tribute to Graham, who recently passed away.
