Meloni named in Iranian revenge list published by Hamshahri
The Italian prime minister appears among world leaders depicted in prison uniforms. The image accompanies statements attributed to Mojtaba Khamenei calling for retaliation over Ali Khamenei’s death
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has been included in a list of figures said to face the “revenge of the Iranian nation,” published online by Hamshahri, a widely circulated newspaper owned by the Municipality of Tehran.
The outlet posted an image portraying several world leaders dressed in orange prison uniforms. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump are shown prominently, each with a crosshair drawn over the head. Meloni is also among those depicted.
The image is accompanied by remarks attributed to Mojtaba Khamenei, Iran’s new Supreme Leader, referring to the need to avenge his father, Ali Khamenei, who was killed at the end of February during the early days of raids carried out by the United States and Israel against the Islamic Republic.
“Avenging the innocent blood” of Ali Khamenei is the pledge contained in a message reported by the satellite broadcaster Al Jazeera and attributed to Mojtaba Khamenei. “Revenge is the will of our nation,” he is said to have declared in his first message following six days of ceremonies in Iran marking his father’s death.
The same message, also carried by Iran’s Fars news agency, insists that the retaliation “must take place” and invokes the “pure blood” of Ali Khamenei as well as that of the “martyrs of these two wars.”
“These criminals, for whom there is a complete list from beginning to end, will carry to the grave the desire for a peaceful death,” the message reads. Mojtaba Khamenei has not appeared in public or on video since March, when he became Iran’s new Supreme Leader.
