Elon Musk posts a photo with President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania, suggesting a thaw after months of public clashes

Is a Musk Trump reconciliation underway? The billionaire shared a photo showing himself at dinner with President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, an encounter that appears to mark the end of months of tension between the Tesla and SpaceX owner and the U.S. president.

“I had a wonderful dinner last night with the President of the United States and the First Lady,” Musk wrote alongside the image on X, the social platform he owns. “2026 is going to be fantastic!” The message was widely interpreted as an effort to put to rest the heated controversies of recent months, during which Musk had publicly criticized the White House in a series of posts.

Musk played a key role in Trump’s 2024 election campaign and later joined the administration, leading DOGE — the Department of Government Efficiency — where he pushed through sweeping cuts to federal spending. He stepped down from the role in May, returning to focus on his companies, particularly Tesla, which had borne a significant cost from his political involvement. His departure from the White House marked the beginning of the rift with Trump.

The clash intensified after Musk harshly criticized the Big Beautiful Bill, the administration’s budget law approved by Congress, warning that it would trigger a sharp increase in public spending. In recent days, however, signs of a Musk Trump reconciliation had already emerged, with Musk praising Trump for the operation in Venezuela that led to the capture and deportation of Nicolás Maduro.

“Venezuela can now have the prosperity it deserves,” Musk wrote, adding Venezuelan flag and heart emojis. He later commented: “It’s moving to see so many Venezuelans celebrating the liberation of their country from a brutal tyrant.”
