Hamas publishes new video of hostage Maxim Herkin: ‘Wounded in tunnel hit by raid’

The young Israeli reappears in a new clip, bandaged and bleeding. Hamas: ‘Severe difficulties due to lack of medication’

Hamas released a new propaganda video today, Saturday 3 May, featuring Israeli hostage Maxim Herkin, who was already shown in a previous recording last month. In the footage, Herkin appears visibly injured, with bloodstained bandages and a rehearsed expression.

According to the Palestinian group, Herkin was injured after an Israeli air raid hit an underground tunnel in the Gaza Strip. In the video, the hostage himself states that he is ‘in serious trouble due to the lack of medication’, a message that appears to be in line with the communication strategy adopted by the militia in recent weeks.

The footage comes just days after another clip released by Hamas, which showed a hostage – presumably Herkin himself – being pulled out from under the sand in a tunnel, following what was described as an Israeli attack.

The periodic release of these videos is part of the psychological war between Hamas and Israel, with the aim of putting pressure on the Tel Aviv government and public opinion. There is currently no independent confirmation of the hostage’s actual state of health or whereabouts.
