In a story posted on Instagram, the Italian supermodel, who has long divided her time between the United States and Italy, recounted the difficulties she is facing in finding the cancer drugs she needs for her treatment.

‘I am a cancer patient,’ Balti writes. ‘The drug I am waiting for is not optional, it is life-saving. I have a career, a life and responsibilities. I have to travel for work. But I can’t do it safely without the pills you are withholding.”

The message is clearly addressed to the American insurance system and the chain of pharmacies and pharmaceutical services responsible for supplying the medicine. The model says she is exasperated by the delays and the constant passing of responsibility.

‘I don’t usually do this, but I’ve run out of patience and time,’ Balti added, noting that she had spent hours on the phone “between one person and another.” ’No one is taking responsibility. No one is solving the problem. You are letting patients down when they need you most. And that is unacceptable.’
