Milan, Italy, demonstration against Trump: support for Ukraine under US consulate

Ukrainian, Italian and European flags fly in Milan in protest against Trump’s “absurd show” during his meeting with Zelensky at the White House

Milan – March 1, 2025 – A spontaneous demonstration was held today in Milan under the U.S. consulate, with dozens of people gathered to protest the behavior of U.S. President Donald Trump during his recent meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House. Ukrainian, Italian and European flags waved as a sign of solidarity with the Ukrainian people and disapproval of the U.S. leader’s attitude.

An initiative born in the night

Fabio Prevedello, president of the Italy-Ukraine Maidan Association, explained that the demonstration was organized quickly, overnight, involving several groups of Ukrainians living in Milan. “We cannot remain silent while they are violating European rights. Our voice is for the Ukrainian people and for European values,” Ukrainian activist Tetyana Bezruchenko said in a video on social media, calling on all those who support European values to join the protest.

Solidarity for the Ukrainian people

Prevedello made it clear that the protest is not against the American people, but in support of Ukraine and U.S. citizens themselves, calling for a clear stance against Trump’s show. “We want to make sure that peace can be achieved, but not on unfair terms for Ukraine,” he added, stressing that selling Ukrainian rare earths without guarantees about Russia’s future behavior would be unacceptable. Zelensky was right, according to Prevedello, to reject such conditions.

Upcoming events

A new presidium in support of Ukraine, organized in collaboration with the Azione movement, is scheduled for tomorrow in Milan’s Piazza Mercanti. The demonstration aims to continue to voice discontent with the U.S. handling of the crisis and strengthen support for Ukrainians.
