Israeli attacks in Beit Lahiya: 9 dead, Hamas accuses Israel of violating truce and derailing peace talks

Israel Defense Forces strike suspected terrorists in Gaza, while Hamas charges cease-fire violation. Mediation attempts for peace fail, increasing tensions in the region

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) conducted airstrikes this morning in the northern Gaza Strip town of Beit Lahiya. At least nine people, including journalists, were killed in the shelling, according to Palestinian sources. The IDF confirmed the operation, saying it hit two terrorists using a drone, posing a threat to Israeli troops in the area.

Double strike against drones and terrorists

The operation, as explained by the Israeli military, took place in two phases. First, a group of suspected terrorists was hit while maneuvering a drone. Subsequently, a second attack targeted other men who had retrieved the drone equipment and loaded it into a vehicle. Israel claims that these individuals were planning new threats against its troops.

Hamas charges

In response to the attacks, Hamas denounced Israel for breaking the cease-fire agreement in effect in Gaza. Hazem Qassem, the group’s spokesman, accused Israel of “committing a horrible massacre” by targeting not only alleged terrorists but also journalists and aid workers. According to Qassem, the attack is a “blatant violation” of the ceasefire and further escalates tensions between the two sides.

Failure of peace talks

Meanwhile, Palestinian officials told BBC Arabia that ceasefire talks brokered by Qatar and Egypt have failed. Major differences between Israel and Hamas have prevented an agreement from being reached, leaving the conflict open to new developments. This diplomatic stalemate risks further prolonging the crisis in the region, with serious consequences for the civilian population.
