Israeli air raids target Houthi military infrastructure in Yemen

Airstrikes on key sites follow repeated missile and drone attacks on Israel. Israel vows to continue its military response

Israeli forces (IDF) conducted significant air raids on Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen, hitting critical infrastructure near the capital Sana’a and in the strategic ports of Hodeida and Ras Isa. According to reports from The Times of Israel, the airstrikes targeted a power plant and other facilities that Israel considers essential to the military activities of the Houthi regime, which is closely aligned with Iran.

These attacks come in response to a series of drone and missile strikes by the Houthis against Israeli targets. The IDF reiterated that the Houthis play a central role in what they call the “Iranian axis of terror,” accusing the group of destabilizing the region. The raids, coordinated with the United States but not carried out jointly, have not yet resulted in any confirmed casualties.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a strong statement, emphasizing that the Houthis “are paying and will continue to pay a high price for their aggression against Israel.” Netanyahu accused the Houthis of furthering Iran’s terrorist agenda and posed them as a threat not only to Israel but also to regional security and freedom of navigation.

Defense Minister Israel Katz also reinforced Israel’s stance, declaring that there would be no “immunity” for Houthi leaders, vowing to dismantle the terror infrastructure built by the Iran-backed group.

The attacks occurred amidst ongoing protests in support of Gaza held in Sana’a. Since 2015, the Houthis have controlled vast swaths of northern and western Yemen, and in recent months, they have intensified their missile and drone attacks on Israeli interests in retaliation for Israel’s operations in Gaza, which began following Hamas’ October 2023 attack on Israel.
