Gaza, Hamas to release four young Israeli female soldiers tomorrow

Hamas announces the names of four Israeli female soldiers it will free tomorrow

Four young Israeli female soldiers will be the next hostages to be released by Hamas as part of the Gaza ceasefire agreement. The release will take place tomorrow, Saturday 25 January, and follows by a week that of three civilian women. The names of the female soldiers – Karina Ariev, Daniella Gilboa, Naama Levy and Liri Albag – were announced by Abu Ubaida, spokesman for the Hamas military wing, as reported by al-Arabiya.

The four are part of the IDF electronic surveillance unit, responsible for analysing real-time images along the Gaza border. They had been kidnapped during the attack on the Nahal Oz base, in which 52 Israeli soldiers lost their lives. A fifth soldier, Agam Berger, who has not been heard from, was also part of the group.

According to the Times of Israel, this decision would violate the ceasefire agreement, which provides for the release in order of civilian women, then female soldiers, followed by the elderly and finally the seriously ill. Hamas’ choice could further complicate an already fragile balance.
