Trump Suspends Planned Iran Strike After Gulf Leaders’ Appeal

The U.S. president says he halted a military operation scheduled for “tomorrow” following urgent requests from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates to preserve ongoing negotiations with Tehran

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced on Truth Social that he has suspended a planned military strike against Iran scheduled for “tomorrow,” following requests from several key Gulf leaders urging continued diplomatic efforts with Tehran.

According to Trump’s post, the decision came after direct appeals from the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and the President of the United Arab Emirates, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The three leaders reportedly asked Washington to allow additional space for negotiations with Iran.

Trump said that “serious negotiations” are currently underway and that, in the assessment of his regional counterparts, an agreement could still be reached that would be acceptable not only to the United States but also to countries across the Middle East and beyond.

He added that any potential agreement would include, as a central condition, the exclusion of nuclear weapons for Iran.

In his statement, Trump emphasized that the decision to halt the strike was made out of “respect” for his Gulf allies. He instructed the head of the Pentagon, Pete Hegseth, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan Caine, and the United States Armed Forces to stand down from carrying out the planned operation.

At the same time, Trump stressed that the military option remains on the table. He said he has ordered U.S. forces to remain fully prepared to launch a large-scale strike on Iran with minimal notice if negotiations fail to produce what he described as an acceptable deal.
