Bank of America executive killed in random Times Square stabbing
Erin Piacenti, 32, died after being stabbed in the abdomen. Police shot and killed the woman accused of attacking her and another man
A Bank of America executive was killed in a random stabbing at Times Square, where a woman armed with two knives attacked her and a 68-year-old man before being shot dead by New York police.
The victim was identified as Erin Piacenti, 32, a vice president at Bank of America. According to CBS, she died from stab wounds to the abdomen inflicted during the attack, which occurred Tuesday at the intersection of West 42nd Street and Seventh Avenue.
Police said the attacker, identified as Pamela Cisneros, 49, pulled out two knives and assaulted Piacenti and the older man without any apparent reason. Officers later opened fire after Cisneros moved toward them while still holding the weapons and shouting, “I will kill you.”
New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch described the incident as a random and unprovoked attack. Officers initially attempted to stop Cisneros with a Taser, but the effort failed to prevent her from continuing toward them with the knives.
The second victim was taken to a hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.
Police said Cisneros, who was from Queens, had a documented history of mental health problems but had never previously been arrested.
Bank of America spokesman John Yiannacopoulos expressed the company’s grief over Piacenti’s death, describing her as a valued colleague and offering condolences to her family and loved ones.
The attack also drew a response from Tom Harris, president of the Times Square Alliance, which represents businesses in the area. He described the stabbings as a tragedy that would not easily be forgotten.
The incident comes just weeks after Luigi Mangione pleaded guilty to federal charges connected to the killing of another corporate executive in New York. The victim in that case was Brian Thompson, CEO of UnitedHealthcare.
