One person was killed in a shooting involving ICE agents in Biddeford, Maine, according to local officials who announced that state authorities are investigating the incident.
Ryan Fecteau, the speaker of the Maine House of Representatives, said the shooting prompted the intervention of the Maine State Police and the Department of Public Safety to reconstruct what happened. An FBI investigation is also expected to be opened.
Local authorities, cited by CNN, confirmed that a law enforcement operation took place in the area but said there is currently no threat to the public. Officials have not released additional details about the circumstances of the shooting or the people involved.
The incident comes less than a week after the death of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a Mexican citizen who was killed by an ICE agent during a traffic stop in Houston.
