Donald Trump on the Strait of Hormuz: Countries Should Send Warships

The U.S. president says several nations may deploy naval forces with the United States to keep the strategic waterway open after Iran’s attempt to close the Strait of Hormuz

U.S. President Donald Trump said that several countries could send warships to help keep the Strait of Hormuz open after what he described as Iran’s attempt to close the strategic shipping lane.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said that many nations affected by the situation in the Gulf may cooperate with the United States to secure the waterway.

“Many countries, especially those affected by Iran’s attempt to close the Strait of Hormuz, will send warships, in cooperation with the United States of America, to keep the Strait open and safe,” Trump wrote, later adding that he “hopes” they will do so.

The U.S. president also said that American forces had already destroyed what he described as “100% of Iran’s military capability.” At the same time, he acknowledged that Iran could still attempt limited actions along the strategic route.

“It is easy for them to send one or two drones, drop a mine or launch a short-range missile somewhere along, or within, this waterway, no matter how badly they have been defeated,” Trump wrote.

Trump then listed several countries that he said could be affected by the situation in the area, including China, France, Japan, South Korea and the United Kingdom, expressing the hope that they would deploy naval forces to the region.

According to the U.S. president, such a move would ensure that the Strait of Hormuz no longer represents a threat “from a nation that has been totally decapitated.”

He concluded by warning that the United States would take further military action if necessary.

“Meanwhile, the United States will bomb the coast without mercy and will continuously sink Iranian boats and ships,” Trump wrote. “One way or another, we will soon make the Strait of Hormuz open, safe and free.”
