Prince Andrew stripped of his vice-admiral title in the United Kingdom

King Charles III removes his younger brother’s last remaining military title

The UK government has announced that it will strip former Prince Andrew of his honorary title of vice-admiral, his last remaining military rank. The decision marks a new stage in the fall from grace of King Charles III’s younger brother.

Andrew had already been stripped of his honorary military titles in 2022 by his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, following the lawsuit filed by Virginia Giuffre, the main accuser of sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Now, the revocation of the title of vice-admiral comes after King Charles III decided to remove the last remaining royal honours, prompted by growing public anger in Britain over the prince’s relationship with Epstein.

Government confirms revocation of vice-admiral title

‘We have seen Andrew relinquish the honorary positions he held in the military. Under the King’s guidance, we are working to remove the last remaining title of vice-admiral that was conferred on him,’ Defence Minister John Healey told the BBC. The government, he added, will also follow the sovereign’s guidance on the possible revocation of military medals.

Prince Andrew’s military past

Prince Andrew served as a Royal Navy helicopter pilot in the 1982 Falklands War, retiring in 2001 after 22 years of service. His title of vice-admiral was conferred on him in recognition of his military career, but allegations linked to the Epstein case have tarnished his public image.

Andrew has always denied sexually abusing Virginia Giuffre, who stated in her posthumous memoir that she was trafficked and forced to have sex with him on three occasions, two of which were when she was a minor.
